If you’ve ever taken a barre class, you’ll know it’s not for the faint-hearted. As pretty as it looks, those small hand-weights WILL murder your triceps and those pretty little passes WILL start to burn! You Barre devotees are some of the most committed body sculptors out there! I watch in awe as you plié, relevé and shake your way through a class, dipping in and out of the dreaded challenge zone. There’s no doubt about it, Barre is one of the best ways to tone, sculpt and lengthen your body (which is why we love it).
BUT…….despite our own steely commitment to the cause, and our ability ‘drop it down just one more inch’ (while mentally throwing daggers at your teacher), some of us still have those troublesome areas that just won’t budge. They’re the bits we pinch with our hand while imagining what it would be like to rid them for good.
Up until recently, there wasn't much you could do about these areas - unless you wanted to go down the extreme path of liposuction (yikes!), until fat freezing came along. Yes, you can now literally freeze your arse off.
I started Body Catalyst 3 years ago when I learned of cryolipolysis (non-surgical liposuction). I was excited to find a treatment that helped by stimulating and working with the body’s natural processes. Up until then, changing the shape of the body was a luxury reserved for the likes of celebrities or the very wealthy. Cryolipoysis is a non-surgical alternative to liposuction, medically proven to reduce fat in treated areas by 20-30%. A special vacuumed applicator is applied to an area of the body and a controlled cooling technique lowers the treatment area to -9C. As fat cells cannot survive at this temperature, the fat cells crystallize, die and over a period of 3 months naturally eliminate from the body, making way for a new body shape to appear. So basically you kill the fat.
But not all ‘Fat Freezing’ is created equal, so if you’re exploring cryolipolysis, look for medical grade, state of the art equipment that is TGA approved and for expert staff who know what they’re doing. While cryolipolysis is relatively safe, the results can vary depending on how the treatment is administered and what technology is used, so it’s worth doing your homework.
As a society, we talk a lot these days about ‘self love’ and ‘body acceptance’ - this positivity is a shift in the right direction. For many women (and men!) who we work with, it’s the fact that they DO love their body that motivates them to make changes - rather than settling for what some might say is ‘just part of the parcel’.
I was saying to Angie, one of our staff members the other day, that my body is actually better now than it was before I had my son Max 8 months ago (apart from my breasts though - I could do with a bit of fat going back in them truth be told!). Cryolipolysis has played a big part in helping me reach my body goals I know I feel more confident as a result. I think this is the most rewarding part of my business - hearing how changes to our customers bodies has helped their confidence.
