Help me go with the Flow….
Gone are the days when you need to struggle with period pain, emotional ups and downs and find your hormonal cycle is ruling your life. Today, there are so many awesome tools, resources and information out there to help. And as an added bonus, we included some of our fave period products too.
Let’s get your flow figured out.
1. Know where you are each month with a Period Tracker
This is your number one tool and resource to help you understand your body better. Trust us, once you start tracking it you will never look back. No longer will you question why am I feeling a little cranky today? Why did I cry at that baby bird? Holy heck, why am I so hot today?...is it? I don’t know….what time of the month is it? You will have all the answers you need, stored in a neat little app on your phone. Plus if you love data and tracking this will definitely get your motor running, you will be able to recognise patterns in your mood, temperature and monitor the regularity of your cycle each month. Our periods are a great window to our health, by tracking you will be able to quickly see any irregularities that may occur in your cycle.
We originally planned to give you a round-up of the Top Trackers, but Women’s Health beat us to the punch so rather than re-invent the wheel, have a read here of their Top Period Trackers
2. ‘Period Power’ by Maisie Hill
'Maisie Hill has written a bloody brilliant book (pun intended). Everything you need to know about periods and how they affect you and your life is here. It's revolutionary' - Miranda Sawyer
Maisie certainly doesn’t beat around the bush when it comes to hormonal health! A no-nonsense guide, that will open your eyes to the complexities and unique power that is being a woman, from explaining PROPERLY our reproductive organs and their functions, the hormones we produce - their impact on our mood and physicality, all the way to management tips. No female topic or life stage is left unturned and you will enjoy the empowerment that this knowledge brings.
Maisie makes things super simple to understand, so don’t fear if you failed biology in school (or *cough* never got properly taught about it!). If you’re interested at all in your own body and how to work WITH it instead of dreading ‘that time of the month’ this is the book for you.
Read it and then hand this to any young women in your life as they start their period journeys.
You can buy here on Booktopia or if you use Audible, can download here.
3. Modibodi
Period Underwear. Who would have thunk? An absolutely amazing transformation of how we manage periods. No need now for those super pads and tampons anymore.
But do they work? Believe you me, I have had many a conversation amongst friends and colleagues about how it works. How it feels. Does it smell? All the questions we all want to know and I’m pretty stoked to say that these products are as good as they say! NO leaks, NO smell plus super comfortable and even a little sexy, it’s time to get rid of those daggy and stained period undies in your draws.
Created by kick-ass Australian woman, Kristy Chong, who developed and patented the Modifier Technology™️ to create leak-proof undies known as Modibodi. Designed to completely replace period products, such as disposable pads, liners and tampons, it’s not only better for your body, but also the planet (Sanitary items such as pads and tampons amount to about a whooping 200,000 tonnes of waste per year). All in all, I'd say that was a Win-Win. Still unsure? Head here to learn more about “How it Works”.
4. Moxie
Not convinced Period underwear is for you? Or not ready to try it yet? Moxie is another ah-mazing Aussie biz, created by an Australian woman. Full of everything and anything you need to know about Periods. My fave being their Periodic Table. So clever.
They have a range of products and also offer another alternative to the traditional products with their Moxie Menstrual Cup.
5. Ovira
Now, this product is simply life-changing. Like, LIFE. CHANGING. If like me you, like me, have suffered painful periods for most of your life then look no further. This my friends is going to be your new BFF. Rounding out our female Boss Trifecta, Ovira was created by Australian Alice Williams, who suffered from debilitating period pain. And rather than spend the rest of her life suffering, she created a product to solve her problem and every other woman’s out there. Welcome to the table – Noha
Ovira’s Noha device uses Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation (TENS) technology to interrupt the pain signals from travelling to your brain. The relief is instant and completely drug-free. No pills, no side effects and no interruptions to your day. The device is un-intrusive to wear and hides easily under your clothing, just stick on the pads and turn it on. Simple and effective.
With more than 1,000 5✭ Reviews, she has clearly succeeded.
